Background & Education
William J. Miller, Jr., known to many as Bill, graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1985 where he served on both the Editorial Board and Managing Board of the School of Law’s Law Review. Mr. Miller was one of only two members of the Law Review who were selected to serve as interns through the District Attorney’s office, enabling him to conduct felony jury trials. Prior to law school, Mr. Miller received a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia.
Professional Experience
Mr. Miller began his career serving as a law clerk to a federal district court judge in the Southern District of Georgia. After the clerkship, he joined a general practice law firm. One of his responsibilities was conducting title searches for more than 1,000 tracts of real estate in Georgia and South Carolina.
Mr. Miller has practiced law in south Georgia and north Florida since 1988. He has handled many types of financial issues, advising clients regarding the legal aspects of their businesses. He has litigated cases in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. During his career, Mr. Miller has managed more than 20,000 bankruptcy cases. Additionally, he has successfully argued cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. In short, Mr. Miller has handled almost every type of case that presents itself in the local area.
Mr. Miller is licensed to practice law in Georgia and Florida, and in addition to these state court admissions, is a member of the bars of the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court Appeals for Eleventh Circuit, the Northern District of Florida and the Southern District of Georgia.
Mr. Miller has served as both the President and Treasurer of the North District of Florida Bankruptcy Bar Association. He has also served as a panel trustee under the US Trustee System for nearly 20 years and has been counsel to the Chapter 13 trustee. He was specially selected to serve in a number of cases as an examiner, chapter 11 trustee and by other special assignment to cases in Georgia.
Mr. Miller has been a speaker at FSU, TCC and area high schools on a number of financial topics. The high school engagements have included talks on personal finance in order to assist students starting their “adult world”. He has also conducted many training seminars on various topics.
